Snowboarding basics

Additional information:

  • Classes are conducted by mgr Magdalena Ojak.
  • The classes are designed for people who want to learn how to ride a snowboard. During the classes you will learn basic skills and elements of riding technique.
  • The University does not provide snowboard equipment, transportation to the classes, accommodation or meals.

Requirements:

  • No health contraindications to participate in physical education classes.
  • Have your own equipment: board, boots, helmet, goggles, jacket, snowboard pants, gloves.
  • Back, knee, elbow and hip protectors are recommended.

Description:

Participants will learn how to start the adventure with the board and what should a snowboard beginner pay attention to? About what board to choose, what mistakes are the most common causes of injury. They will learn the basic concepts of snowboarding, learn how to handle the board on the slope, falls, getting up, proper warm-up. Students will learn basic stunts such as: riding in the fall line of the slope, riding on a slant, straight jump.
Students will learn sliding evolutions: parallel (straight), oblique, rotational sliding turn, sliding turn.

The following topics are implemented during the class:

  • Health and safety rules during the class. Overview of snowboard equipment.
  • Introduction to snowboarding
    - Snowboard warm-up
    - Putting on the equipment
    - Falling down and rising up
    - Basic position and balance
    - Moving (flat terrain, slope)
    - Returns
    - Approaches
    - Ski lift rides
  • Basic techniques
    - Slide (straight, slanted) with stop
    - Sloping downhill (forward, backward)
    - Driving in the slope line
    - Rotational sliding
    - Sliding turn
